I've heard and read many times about a short hike, just minutes from the Pali and thought, "nah, there's gotta be more to that."
Usually, the "net" tells me about 2 hour hikes and 6 hours later I finish it.
Not this time. They said 10 minutes from the highway and that's only if you walk slow.
Check out the video....
And some rad images...
Park in the scenic lookout of the Pali Hwy. If you're familiar with the area, this view is a dead giveaway.
Above is Alapena falls. The nicer of the two if you ask me. One of these days I'll come down here in the evening when the lighting is best and I'll bring a tripod and nail this shot. For now, those below are pretty close :-).
And a few different angles/focal lengths.
And Kapena Falls. That's the Pali Hwy right above it. Now you get an idea just how short of a hike this is.
I hear it is usually like this with the dirty water. Lots of mud run off from the rain surrounds the pool here. Lots of people jump from the rocks to the right. There are a few too many rocks sticking out of the water for me to be doing that. Not sure of the depth or where it would be safe to jump and I'm not gonna get in that nasty water to find out.
FMF (Fat-Man-Factor)(FMF is a difficulty scale from 1-10, from an out of shape, fat, white guy's point of view): 2 I'd give it a 1, but it's a little slippery when wet and muddy. So, be careful, as usual, but if you're looking for a day of hiking, you'll need a few more to fill your day other than this one :D. Jackass Ginger/Judd trail/Lulumahu Falls would be nice additions to this one for a nice day of hiking.
