I've done this one before, but for a sunrise. See those images here. That entire climb was in the dark. Not too good for video :-).
This time I waited until the kids were on the school bus and headed east.
And a few images:
1,061 steps they tell me. I'll have to take their word for it cuz it's hard to count when you can't breathe!
Don't have to climb very far to get spectacular views.
It does, however, seem to go on FOREVER!
Once at the top though.....Simply unreal!
I think I prefer the sunset. That day I was one of, maybe, 3 people on the stairs. I probably ran into 50-60 on this day.
The make for good unintentional models :-)
I needed prayer at the BOTTOM, to help me climb, but I guess praying that I get down without snapping a limb is ok too.
Hanauma Bay. Beautiful as always.
One last glance from Koko Head to Diamond Head before going down.
Worth the pain. Every time!
FMF (Fat-Man-Factor)(FMF is a difficulty scale from 1-10, from an out of shape, fat, white guy's point of view): I'm torn here. It's really not difficult danger wise, but for a fat guy, this is a leg and lung killer. Took me 90 minutes to get up and about 20-25 to get down, but there are people getting up there in under 15-20 minutes. If you're that hung ho, you shouldn't be reading the Fat Man factor anyway :D.
